Cause of Death Confirmed: "Multiple Sharp Force Injuries"
Medical Examiner releases official findings as Nick Reiner awaits January arraignment
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner made it official yesterday. Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, died from "multiple sharp force injuries." The clinical language for what we already knew: they were stabbed to death.
This confirmation came the same day their son Nick made his first court appearance. Seated behind glass in a suicide prevention smock, shackled, the 32-year-old spoke exactly three words: "Yes, your honor." That was it. He was confirming he would waive his right to a speedy arraignment.
The arraignment is now set for January 7th, 2026. Three weeks away.
— Alan Jackson, Defense Attorney
Jackson, fresh off the Karen Read acquittal in Massachusetts, isn't showing his cards yet. But that phrase, "complex and serious issues," keeps hanging in the air. We're likely looking at mental health playing a significant role in whatever defense emerges.
Nick Reiner remains at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles. No bail. That facility, by the way, is the largest mental health treatment center in the country. Not a hospital. A jail.
His siblings Jake and Romy released a statement asking for privacy, describing "unimaginable pain" and calling their parents "our best friends." They didn't mention their brother. Five sentences total. The silence says more than the words.
Current Case Status
Defendant: Nick Reiner, 32
Charges: Two counts first-degree murder with special circumstances
Special Allegation: Personal use of deadly weapon (knife)
Potential Sentence: Life without parole or death penalty
Bail: None
Location: Twin Towers Correctional Facility, Los Angeles
Next Court Date: January 7, 2026 (arraignment)
The DA's office still hasn't decided whether to seek the death penalty. They've said they'll take the family's wishes into consideration. Given that statement from Jake and Romy, I'd imagine that's a conversation nobody wants to have.
Surveillance footage released yesterday shows Nick calmly buying a drink at a gas station moments before his arrest Sunday night. No panic. No urgency. Just a man waiting in line like any other customer. Hours after what allegedly happened in that Brentwood bedroom.
We wait. January 7th will tell us more. That's when Nick Reiner enters a plea, and we get our first real look at what the defense strategy might be.
Until then, two Hollywood icons are gone, a family is shattered, and a 32-year-old man sits in a jail cell while the system does what the system does.
We'll be watching.
