Walshe Sentencing Postponed to Thursday

Norfolk DA announces one-day delay; no reason given

Quick update for those following the Brian Walshe case.

The Norfolk District Attorney's Office announced late Tuesday that Brian Walshe's sentencing has been postponed by one day. It was scheduled for this morning, Wednesday, December 17th at 9 AM. It will now take place Thursday, December 18th at 9 AM in Norfolk Superior Court.

No reason was given for the delay.

The hearing will include victim impact statements from Ana's family before Judge Diane Freniere imposes the sentence. For the first-degree murder conviction, the sentence is mandatory: life in prison without the possibility of parole. Judge Freniere has no discretion on that count.

But there are other matters to address. Brian pleaded guilty before trial to misleading police and improper conveyance of a human body. Those charges carry their own potential sentences, and the judge may impose additional time to run consecutively with the life sentence.

We'll be covering the sentencing live tomorrow morning.

Ana's family will finally have their moment to speak directly to the man convicted of killing her. After two weeks of evidence, after months of waiting, after nearly three years since she disappeared, they will tell the court what they lost. And Brian Walshe will have to sit there and listen.

See you tomorrow.
